« Shake It Up » est la neuvième chanson du 19e album studio solo de Ringo Starr, Give More Love, paru en 2017.
La chanson a été coécrite par Starr et Gary Nicholson, un collaborateur de longue date.
J’adore Gary Nicholson. Dès que ce disque sera sorti, il m’appellera et me dira : « Alors, tu commences un nouveau disque ? Parce que je viens en ville. » Nous passons de bons moments à écrire ensemble. Il est tellement professionnel. Il a un ordinateur rempli de choses et de phrases qu’il a dites. En général, il y a un bon titre qui finit par en sortir. Pour moi, « Shake It Up », c’est comme un bal d’école — sur ce morceau, c’est comme si nous étions en vestes blanches et que nous faisions du rock. Lui est à la guitare. Moi, je suis à la batterie. Edgar Winter joue dessus — Edgar, c’est le rock ’n’ roll, tout comme Don Was, avec qui j’ai travaillé pour la première fois en 1990 sur Time Takes Time. J’avais alors quatre producteurs, parce que je manquais tellement de confiance en moi. Le projet a en quelque sorte été laissé entre ses mains. Don fait toujours un excellent travail.
