« Gotta Get Up To Get Down » est le morceau d’ouverture du 20e album studio solo de Ringo Starr, What’s My Name, paru en 2019.
Le titre de la chanson est né au cours d’un dîner réunissant Starr, son coauteur Joe Walsh et Klaus Voormann.
C’est la première chanson sur laquelle nous avons travaillé pour cet album, et le résultat s’est révélé formidable. Je l’ai faite avec Joe Walsh. Nous dînions avec Jim Keltner et, je ne sais plus exactement comment, cette phrase est sortie au cours de la conversation : « Well, you gotta get up to get down. » Nous avons immédiatement compris que nous tenions un titre ! Joe et moi nous sommes regardés et nous nous sommes dit : « Oui, ce sera le titre, et nous allons écrire une chanson autour de ça. »
