EACH ONE BELIEVING: ONSTAGE, OFFSTAGE AND BACKSTAGE

A Revealing, Access- All-Areas Account Of Life On The Road With Paul McCartney

On November 4th 2004 Chronicle Books is proudly publishing a new book called EACH ONE BELIEVING: ON STAGE, OFF STAGE AND BACKSTAGE, an account of life on the road with Paul McCartney during his recent Word Tour during which he played to over two million people – his most successful tour since The Beatles.

At the start of the tour, Paul came up the concept of creating a book that would reflect some of the energy and excitement of being on the road. What drives a musician to perform? What goes on behind the scenes? How does a band prepare for a gig? What does it feel like just before Paul goes on stage? Who qualifies as a VIP (or a VVVIP)?

EACH ONE BELIEVING takes you behind the scenes of a major music tour and into an exhilarating world. Poignant, candid, hilarious and illuminating by turns, EACH ONE BELIEVING is a road trip unlike any other. Paul’s own personal reflections, along with those of his wife, his band and his crew were filmed by a film director making a film about the tour. This footage along with hundreds of press, radio and TV interviews, all conducted whilst on the road, has been transcribed and edited and woven together with hundreds of never-before-seen photographs by official tour photographer Bill Bernstein. Art director Caroline Grimshaw worked closely with Paul selecting, editing and organising the material used in the book.

Readers are taken on a remarkable journey from New York in the days following 9/11, when Paul wrote ‘Freedom’, across North America, Europe and Japan. It included the landmark concerts inside and outside Rome’s Colosseum, at home in Liverpool and his historic show in Moscow’ Red Square – -“because, having written ‘Back in the USSR.’, I wanted to go there and play that.”

We see Paul learning phrases in the different languages to speak at the concerts, his meetings with local luminaries, the challenges and difficulties his road-crew face constructing and taking apart the set at each stage. We experience the catering team preparing menus and charging round local supermarkets with 7 or 8 trolleys preparing the 30,000 meals that will be made for the band and crew. We watch the warm-up act preparing for their amazing performances, and the band leaving the venue each night after another massively successful concert. We relive Paul warming up with the band, cooling down with Heather and his friends. On stage, off stage, and backstage. Here, there and everywhere. Here is Paul McCartney, rocking the world.
