L’ex-Beatle Paul McCartney a dit vendredi espérer que le concert qu’il donnera le 25 septembre à Tel-Aviv, permettra de faire passer un message de paix au Proche-Orient.
« Le monde connaît les conflits qui frappent cette région, et je me plais à penser que si je vais dans un endroit, il est évident que mon message est un message de paix, et j’espère que cette idée se propagera », a-t-il déclaré sur son site internet.
« Ca arrive souvent, vous savez. Vous allez dans un endroit et ça peut toucher le public », a-t-il ajouté. Ce message de paix, « quand je parlerai, ce sera mon message, et je suis sûr que ce sera un message partagé par une grande partie du public également », a-t-il ajouté.
Le musicien britannique jouera à Hayarkon Park le 25 septembre pour un concert intitulé « Friendship first » ou « l’amitié avant tout ».
Ce concert est le premier de Paul McCartney en Israël, 43 ans après avoir été privé de concert avec les Beatles par les autorités israéliennes. Il fait partie d’une série de concerts que Sir Paul donne cette année dans des lieux où il ne s’est jamais produit auparavant.
McCartney a failli se produire par deux fois en Israël dans le passé. A l’apogée de la Beatlemania en 1965, les Beatles devaient y donner un concert mais le producteur n’avait pu réunir assez de fonds. Les Beatles avaient alors sollicité une aide du gouvernement israélien, mais celle-ci avait été refusée par des responsables qui estimaient qu’ils allaient corrompre la jeunesse.
Une deuxième tentative avait eu lieu dans les années 1970 avec les Wings, le groupe de Paul McCartney, mais le projet avait dû être abandonné à cause de problèmes avec la salle de concert.
L’ambassadeur israélien en Grande-Bretagne, Ron Prosor, a présenté cette année des excuses aux Beatles pour ce « malentendu » au cours d’un voyage à Liverpool.
