2008 : les moeurs ont bien évolué et Paul McCartney, 43 ans après, accepte les excuses d?Israël formulées en janvier dernier, en venant y donner son tout premier concert, à l?occasion des 60 ans de l?État.
« Shalom Tel-Aviv », lance la star aux 50.000 spectateurs venus voir le mythe vivant. « Chana Tova. Ramadan Karim », poursuit-il à l?adresse des Juifs (pour la nouvelle année) et des Musulmans (pour le jeûne Ramadan) présents dans la foule.
Puis la magie démarre et l?ancien Beatle, accompagné de 30 musiciens, démontre qu?à 66 ans bien sonnés, il n?a rien perdu de son génie musical. Les plus grands tubes du groupe légendaire sont repris en choeur par une foule de fans en délire : « Back in the USSR, » « Eleanor Rigby », « Black Bird », « Let it Be », « Hey Jude », « Yesterday »… McCartney chante aussi certains de ses tubes les plus récents comme « Only Mama Knows » et « Calico Skies ».
Le concert, qui attire un public de toutes générations, est chargé d?émotions et de symboles, notamment lorsque McCartney entonne le célèbre « Give peace a chance » (donnez une chance à la paix) de John Lennon, ajoutant à la chanson « faites la paix, faites la paix ».
Un vrai moment de bonheur et de communion, qui fait oublier toutes les polémiques qui avaient entouré la venue de l?artiste. Au début du mois, un extrémiste musulman libanais, Omar Bakri Mouhammad avait déclaré que McCartney « ne (serait) pas en sécurité » s?il se rendait en Israël et que des combattants prêts à sacrifier leur vie l?attendraient ». Plusieurs organisations pro-palestiniennes avaient également appelé la star à boycotter Israël. Mercredi, l?artiste qui s?était rendu à la basilique de la Nativité à Bethléem, en Cisjordanie, avait dit : « Je suis venu dans ce lieu pour dire que nous avons besoin de paix dans cette région et de deux Etats. J?apporte un message de paix et je pense que c?est ce dont la région a besoin. »
