{He?s written some good pop songs y?know. And he still can?
The sublime tour of 2004 that climaxed at Glastonbury is still paying dividends, as it?s reinvigorated Macca?s love of music, and forced him to write a batch of new songs worthy of playing alongside the classics.
He faces up to his naff persona (?very twee, very me? he sings on English Tea) and tears is up to dash of his best LP in years with an arrogant brilliance.
McCartney admits that new producer Nigel Godrich bullied him into breaking out of his comfort zone, and has also provided a sparsely beautiful backing.
Make no mistake, however, this is Macca having an absolute blast.
From the simple waltz of the Blackbird-ish Jenny Wren and Certain Softness to the moptop romp of Fine Line and Too Much Rain?s bleak mystery, he?s found his muse. A creative force to be reckoned with all over again.
