Comme nous vous en avons informé, c’est la semaine passée qu’a été porté à la connaissance du grand public une chanson inédite de Mick Jagger, produite par John Lennon en 1974, et connue par certains fans sous le titre de « Too Many Cooks ». Cet enregistrement, gravé sur un disque acetate de 10 pouces, sera vendu le 20 Février prochain par le commissaire priseur Cooper Owen . Lot 180: Acetate recording of Mick Jagger with John Lennon A one sided, 10 inch acetate recording, unlabeled. The recording features the unmistakable voice of Mick Jagger, singing a ‘funky’ 1970’s sounding R & B track, title unknown. £1,000-1,500
Whilst researching the history of this recording, a tape of the song was taken to Mick Jagger’s office. Whilst there, Jagger by chance walked in and on hearing the track commented that it was a song he recorded with Lennon and that he hadn’t heard the song in over 25 years and in fact he actually had no copy himself.
It is known that during Lennon’s infamous 1973 ‘Lost Weekend’ many of his favourite musicians – Jim Keltner, Jesse Ed Davis, Danny Kortchmar, Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson amongst others – would meet up to ‘socialise’ and jam, and record at either A & M Studios or at the Record Plant (West). At one such gathering, Mick Jagger brought in an old Willie Dixon number he had called ‘Too Many Cooks’ and with Lennon’s help, produced a cover version of the track. It is possible that this acetate is of a recording from the same period.
