It?s our first anniversary!
Hi folks,
We?re celebrating A YEAR of www.lennon.net!
The great feedback we?ve had since we went online means that we are doing most of it right! Lots of people share in our success. Thank you to the family – the Liverpool Lennons – for their input and support and to you,
the fans, for your encouragement. Keep your emails coming in ? we welcome
your comments and wherever we can we instigate the changes you suggest.
This is also our chance to pay tribute to Webmaster Derek Gibson ? our
only sadness is that Derek who played the biggest part in setting up and
running the site is not here to share in our success. Thank you everyone
for making our first year such a hit.
The success of the website has highlighted the fact that interest in John,
the Lennon family and the Beatles is as strong as ever. In just the last
year for example a BBC poll of the Greatest Ever Briton named John in 7th
place and Liverpool Speke airport was re-named Liverpool John Lennon
Airport ? but as far as the family are concerned probably the best
tribute to John is the garden at Durness. Durness is a remote Scottish
village where Dad spent his childhood summer holidays. The Durness
Gardening Group had the idea to commemorate John?s connection with the
village by creating a memorial garden. They were aided and abetted by a
BBC gardening programme and last August a beautiful garden was opened to
the public. John?s cousin Stanley Parkes echoed everyone?s delight when he
said, ?John really loved Durness and he would have been thrilled with this
tribute.? The Durness Gardening Group told us recently, ?The garden is
thriving and we are delighted that visitors come from far and wide to see
it.?
To mark the first anniversary of www.lennon.net we are holding a special
competition. This is your opportunity to win a framed copy of a unique
black and white photograph of me and Dad taken in 1967 at ?Kenwood?. I
love this picture and have it hanging in my own home. To have a chance to
win just visit our special First Anniversary Competition page on
www.lennon.net.
Good luck!
