Le 3 Septembre dernier, l’émission de télévison américaine « Access Hollywood », a diffusé un reportage consacré à la tragédie du 11 Septembre 2001, reportage pour lequel Paul a apporté sa contribution, que nous vous livrons ci-après.
« I very much experienced it in the New York area, the whole thing. On September 11th, I was at JFK ready to take off to England at quarter to nine, right when the airport was closed. The pilot said that there had been a terrible accident in New York and those of us on the right-hand side of the airplane would be able to see it. So I looked out ? I was on the right side ? and I could see one of the towers and just a huge plume of smoke going off to the left. I thought it was industrial pollution or something. I couldn’t work it out. (…) The first thing I thought was that a jet had flown across America and the pilot was dead. I thought it was like that. And then, immediately, someone said that there was a second plane going into the second tower. That changed everything ? it got scary. And then, when the Pentagon? the explosion there, was mentioned, that really got scary. It was like an invasion of America. What is this? This was worse than Pearl Harbor! (…) We left the airport and heard it on the radio that the towers were collapsing. And then we finally got to a TV and saw it like everyone else did. Then the whole drama unfolded ? and the heroism that was shown, particularly by the firefighters. So in the ensuing days, I thought, like everyone, that I’d like to do something. I ended up writing a song about freedom and how it’s my right to have a free life. I was speaking for everyone in a democratic country, particularly at this moment in America. »
