« February Sky », que l’on peut traduire par « Ciel de février », est la chanson d’ouverture de l’EP Crooked Boy de Ringo Starr, paru en 2024.
Le morceau a été coécrit par Ringo Starr, sous son véritable nom Richard Starkey, et Linda Perry. Celle-ci assure également la production de l’EP et joue plusieurs instruments sur l’enregistrement.
Un EP conçu par Linda Perry pour Ringo Starr
Linda Perry avait déjà collaboré avec Ringo Starr sur plusieurs de ses EP précédents. Pour Crooked Boy, elle a pris une place encore plus importante en préparant les morceaux dans son propre studio avant de les envoyer à Ringo afin qu’il ajoute sa batterie et son chant.
Ringo Starr a expliqué :
« Linda m’a préparé un excellent EP. Elle l’a produit dans son studio, puis elle m’a envoyé les pistes et j’ai ajouté la batterie et mon chant. “February Sky” est formidable, très atmosphérique, presque sombre, mais comme Linda a écrit ces chansons spécialement pour moi, il fallait évidemment qu’il y ait aussi cette dimension positive de paix et d’amour. »

« Ciel de février »
Le titre « February Sky » signifie simplement « Ciel de février ».
Ringo décrit lui-même la chanson comme particulièrement moody, terme qui peut évoquer une atmosphère sombre, mélancolique ou changeante. Cette tonalité contraste avec le message positif que Linda Perry souhaitait conserver en écrivant spécialement pour lui.
« February Sky » ouvre donc Crooked Boy sur une couleur plus mélancolique que certaines chansons récentes de Ringo Starr, tout en restant fidèle à son univers habituel de « peace and love ».
