George Harrison’s son Dhani came on stage to sing a number, as did the composer Nitin Sawhney, and we got some blistering riffs from the British guitarist John McLaughlin, who has spent his life jamming with Indian musicians. There were 18 instrumentalists and four chorus singers packing the stage: a far cry from the intimacy in which we originally learned to love Shankar’s exquisite art.

On Elton John’s Rocket Hour (via Apple Music 1), Julian Lennon tells Elton John, from one legendary musician to another, “I literally didn't think I was doing another album. I really didn't. I thought that that was it.”


Lennon goes on to say, “But I started digging into a box of old tapes of mine from 30 years ago, in fact, when I used to live in LA, and found all these old songs that I hadn't...” Well, he admits, “that weren't right for previous albums or just…weren't quite finished."
